Leicester Business Awards

Long term client Hawk Audio Visual approached Pearce Hire for their assistance in the staging of the 2008 Leicester Business Awards. The awards held at Leicester’s De Montfort Hall are now in their 16th year but 2008 was the first year that Hawk have been technical supplier to the event.

Hawk contacted Pearce Hire’s John Huson to arrange all of the lighting & audio requirements for the show. The awards ceremony was held in the main auditorium at De Montfort but in addition to ensuring this area was suitably covered Pearce Hire also supplied lighting and audio systems for the bar and foyer area for pre awards drinks reception and after show party. Pearce Hire also supplied decorative lighting to the corridor areas and some external lighting including lighting of the whole frontage of De Montfort Hall in the awards colour scheme.

The main room lighting rig which was used to provide an nice atmosphere during the dinner as well as the essential movement and effects required for the awards themselves, included 14x Martin MAC 700 profiles, 10x Martin MAC 600 washlights, 10x Thomas Pixelline battens as well as a selection of generic fixtures. Pearce Hire also supplied Martin MAC 250 Entours and Washes for the bar area.

Audio for this event was a key concern for the awards organisers having been disappointed by efforts in previous years. Pearce Hire’s Richard Oxley designed a distributed audio system using L-Acoustics components including ARCS, MTD115 XT, MTD 108s and SB118s. All of the organisers concerns were put at bay when the system worked faultlessly providing clear speech at a consistent level throughout the venue.

MMM Awards

Pearce Hire have been providing technical services to Warner’s Exhibitions for over 15 years, so when their sister company Warner’s Publications decided to stage the inaugural MMM Awards in 2005 Pearce Hire were a natural choice to provide the technical infrastructure for the show.

Now in it’s third year the event was staged at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole, a venue which Pearce Hire are very familiar with having serviced many events there. Pearce Hire supplied a complete production package including Lighting, Audio, Rigging, Video and draping.Due to the mixture of awards and entertainment the room featured two stages, the awards stage featured a 30’ wide screen as the key feature with Starcloth surrounding it and to the sides with colour changing columns to add some additional eye candy. At the other end of the room was the entertainment stage which featured performers Men in Coats and The Commitments amongst others.

Lighting for the event was spread over four trusses and was a mix of generic fixtures and Martin MAC units to provide room atmosphere and the all important awards stings as well as making sure both stages were suitably lit.

Audio was split into two distinct systems, the awards system based around L-Acoustics MTD115 XTs & MTD 108s with SB118 subs and the band stage system was based around L-Acousitcs ARCs with SB218 subs. Desks were a DM1000 and DM2000 respectively.

The challenge with any show of this type is to provide the required level of technical infrastructure but make it as invisible as possible to the guests on the night, something which Pearce once again achieved.

Oxford Farmers Conference

The Oxford Farmers Conference is one of the most prestigious events on the farming calendar. Held in the historic Oxford Examination Halls, the three day conference has been running for over 50 years and attracts around 500 delegates from across all sectors of the farming industry.

For the last four years Pearce Hire has been working in conjunction with long term client Hawk Audio Visual to provide lighting, audio and trussing for the event.

This year Pearce Hire installed a 20m x 9m ground supported truss structure utilising some of our new Prolyte H30V trussing system to support all of the lighting, audio, screens and projectors for the event.

Lighting was all generic and consisted largely of Source 4 Profiles & PARs, audio was based around L-Acoustics MTD115 XT Hi-Q’s and MTD108 and designed to give even coverage throughout the unusual T shaped venue.

One of the biggest challenges for this event is the load in! All the equipment has to be moved around 100 metres by hand and then either transported in a small goods lift which is only big enough for one flightcase at a time or carried up three flights of stairs to the first floor, being extremely careful to avoid many ornate pictures and scultures on route.
